Precision Felixstowe are registered with the government gateway so we are able to make IPAFFS applications to DEFRA on behalf of importers of Fresh Fruit. These applications are required for certain types of fresh produce before they can be customs cleared and released into free circulation. The IPAFFS system informs the relevant government dept of impending arrivals of fruit so that they decide on whether they will want to examine the produce. Once the fruit has been released by the IPAFFS system it automatically talks to customs CHIEF system and goods can then be cleared and released.
Depending on which government dept was responsible to release the fruit, there will be either a conformity certificate or a quarantine release certificate or sometimes both issued. These documents have to be kept on file along with the customs entries for auditing purposes.
